FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Practical answers for your trip to Costa Rica.
Which airport should I fly into?
Fly into San José Juan Santamaría (SJO), the country's largest airport. Most major US airlines fly there directly, with nonstop flights of under four hours from Houston and about three and a half from Miami, and several European airlines fly in too. It is a little over an hour's drive to Los Sueños. Liberia (LIR) also has international flights but is 3 to 4 hours away.
Can you arrange ground transportation?
Yes. We can pick you up at SJO or LIR and drive you to Los Sueños Resort & Marina. The drive from SJO usually takes under an hour and a half; from LIR, about 3 to 4 hours depending on traffic. Helicopter transfers from SJO take about 25 minutes.
What do I need for my passport?
Your passport needs at least six months left before it expires, and it should be in good condition, with no tears or loose pages. Carry a copy and keep the original in your rental's safe. If you drive, carry a copy of your photo page and entry stamp.
Can I use credit cards and US dollars?
Visa, Mastercard and American Express are widely accepted, and most places take US dollars. Bring small bills, since some vendors won't break $50s or $100s. Call your card issuer before you travel so charges aren't declined. There are banks and ATMs at the marina.
Will my cell phone work?
Most US and Canadian phones work in Costa Rica. Check with your carrier about international use and a travel plan, as roaming data can be expensive. Rentals, restaurants and most businesses have Wi-Fi.
Is there Wi-Fi in the rentals?
Almost every condo and house in Los Sueños has free Wi-Fi, as do most restaurants and businesses.
What are the power outlets?
Costa Rica uses 110/120 V with the same plugs as the US, Canada and Mexico, so you don't need an adapter.
Is the tap water safe to drink?
Inside Los Sueños Resort, yes. The resort runs its own wells and tests the water monthly, and most guests drink it straight from the tap. Outside the resort, bottled water is the safer choice if you don't travel often.
Is there medical care nearby?
Yes. There is a private clinic run by Clínica Bíblica inside the resort gates, with bilingual staff, a pharmacy and emergency care. Nearby Jacó also has several pharmacies, each with a doctor on staff.
